Installation
This guide walks you through installing the Brave theme on your Shopify store and setting it up for success.
Prerequisites
Before installing Brave, ensure you have:
- An active Shopify store (any plan)
- Admin access to your store
- Your theme files (ZIP file or access to the theme repository)
Installation Methods
Method 1: Upload ZIP File
Install via ZIP Upload
- 1In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes
- 2Click Add theme → Upload zip file
- 3Select your Brave theme ZIP file and click Upload
- 4Once uploaded, click Customize to open the Theme Editor
Method 2: GitHub Integration
If you have access to the theme's GitHub repository:
Install via GitHub
- 1In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes
- 2Click Add theme → Connect from GitHub
- 3Authorize Shopify to access your GitHub account
- 4Select the repository and branch containing the Brave theme
Initial Setup
After installation, follow these steps to configure your theme:
Step 1: Enter the Theme Editor
- Go to Online Store → Themes
- Find "Brave" in your theme library
- Click Customize
Step 2: Configure Theme Settings
Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the Theme Editor sidebar to access global settings:
- Typography — Set your primary font and scale
- Layout — Choose page width and margins
- Colors — Configure your color schemes
- Header — Set sticky behavior and overlay options
- Products — Enable cart drawer and quick add
- Social — Add your social media links
Step 3: Upload Your Logo
- Navigate to Header in the Theme Editor
- Upload your logo in the Logo field
- Upload a light version in Logo (light) for overlay mode
- Adjust the Width to your preference
Step 4: Set Up Navigation
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Navigation
- Edit your Main menu to include your desired links
- Create nested menus for dropdowns
- Return to the Theme Editor and verify navigation appears
Step 5: Configure Your Homepage
- Click on your Home page template
- Add sections for your needs:
- Hero Banner or Slideshow for the top
- Editorial Grid or New Releases for products
- Benefits for trust signals
- FAQ for common questions
Publishing Your Theme
⚠️ Before Publishing: Preview your theme on different devices and pages. Ensure all content is correct and functioning properly.
When you're ready to go live:
- Go to Online Store → Themes
- Find Brave in your theme library
- Click Actions → Publish
- Confirm the publish action
Migrating from Another Theme
If you're switching from another theme, keep these tips in mind:

Content That Needs Reconfiguration
- Homepage sections and layout
- Header and footer settings
- Section-specific settings (hero images, slideshow content, etc.)
- Custom CSS (if any)
Recommended Migration Steps
- Export your current theme settings — Take screenshots or notes of your current configuration
- Install Brave as an unpublished theme — Keep your current theme live
- Configure Brave in preview mode — Use the Preview button to test
- Recreate homepage sections — Add and configure sections one by one
- Test thoroughly — Check on mobile, tablet, and desktop
- Publish when ready — Switch to Brave once everything is set

For developers who want to modify the theme locally:
Prerequisites
- Shopify CLI installed
- Node.js 18+ installed
- Git installed
Local Development
# Clone the theme repository
git clone [repository-url]
# Navigate to the theme folder
cd skeleton
# Connect to your Shopify store
shopify theme dev --store your-store.myshopify.com
This starts a local development server with hot reloading.
