Customer Accounts
Manage the login, registration, and order history pages for your customers.
Customer accounts allow shoppers to log in, view their order history, manage addresses, and check their order status. SAISON provides a beautifully styled set of templates for all customer account pages.
Classic vs. New Customer Accounts
Shopify recently introduced New Customer Accounts (passwordless login via email code) alongside the Classic Customer Accounts (email and password). SAISON is fully compatible with both.
- New Customer Accounts: Customers log in with a 6-digit code sent to their email. Supports B2B features.
- Classic Customer Accounts: Customers log in with an email and password.
- The login style is determined by your Shopify Admin settings, not the theme.
Setting Up Accounts
Enable Accounts in Shopify Admin
Go to your Shopify Admin and navigate to Settings > Customer accounts. Choose whether you want accounts to be required, optional, or disabled.
Choose Account Version
In the same settings panel, select between Classic and New customer accounts. We recommend New Customer Accounts for most modern stores due to its passwordless convenience and B2B support.
Show Login Link in Header
In the Theme Editor, go to the Header section settings and check Enable customer accounts icon. Ensure you have accounts enabled in the Shopify Admin, otherwise the icon will not appear.
The Account Templates
SAISON provides styling for the following Classic Account templates (New Account templates are hosted directly by Shopify and cannot be edited via the theme):
- Login / Register (
customers/login.json,customers/register.json) - Account Overview (
customers/account.json) - Order History & Details (
customers/order.json) - Addresses (
customers/addresses.json) - Reset Password (
customers/reset_password.json)
Testing Tip: You cannot access customer account pages from the Theme Editor unless you are logged in as a test customer on your storefront. Create a dummy customer account to preview these pages properly.
Common Mistakes
- Icon missing from header: The header icon will only appear if Customer Accounts are enabled in your Shopify Admin (
Settings > Customer accounts). - Trying to edit New Customer Accounts: If you are using New Customer Accounts, Shopify locks the layout. You can only customize the branding (logo, colors) from
Settings > Customer accounts > Customize.
