Troubleshooting

Product variant issues

Fix option buttons, swatches, sold-out states, variant media, selling plans, and unit pricing by checking the product data first, then the SAISON product settings.

Symptom-basedProduct data firstUse with a real product handle

Most variant problems start in Shopify product data. SAISON can only display the option names, values, variant images, inventory, and selling plans Shopify provides.

Fix By Symptom

What you see

Variant picker does not show the expected options

Likely cause

The product option names or values are different from what you expect, or the product is assigned to a different template.

Check in Shopify

Open the product and review Options, Variants, availability, and template assignment. Confirm the product has real variant values, not only a default title.

Check in SAISON

Open the Product section and Options block. Choose buttons for short option lists, dropdown for long lists, and confirm hide_variants is not hiding unavailable choices.

When to contact support

Send the product handle, screenshot of Shopify product options, and screenshot of the Product section Options block.

What you see

Color swatches show text, blank circles, or the wrong colors

Likely cause

The swatch option name does not match the product option, custom swatch files are missing, or variant color names are inconsistent.

Check in Shopify

Confirm the product option is consistently named Color, Colour, Material, or the exact name used in theme settings. Check variant values for spelling differences.

Check in SAISON

Review the Options block swatch style and the global swatch settings. For custom images, confirm filenames match the variant value formatting described in the swatches guide.

When to contact support

Send the option name, example variant values, and one swatch file name that should match.

What you see

Changing color does not update the product image

Likely cause

Variant images are not assigned, or the color media behavior cannot find a matching image for that option.

Check in Shopify

Assign images to each color variant in Shopify and confirm each color has at least one useful media item.

Check in SAISON

Check enable_color_hover_preview, canonical_size, color_fallback_behavior, and media_layout in the Product section.

When to contact support

Send the product handle and the color value that fails to switch media.

What you see

Sold-out products or unavailable combinations still appear

Likely cause

Shopify inventory policy, product availability, or variant hiding settings do not match the desired buying behavior.

Check in Shopify

Review inventory quantity, continue-selling policy, sales channel availability, and whether each variant can be purchased.

Check in SAISON

Check hide_variants, stock status blocks, quick add mode, and cart behavior with both available and sold-out variants.

When to contact support

Send the affected variant title and whether it should be hidden, disabled, or shown as sold out.

What you see

Selling plans or subscriptions are missing

Likely cause

The subscription app has not attached a selling plan group to the product, or the app block is missing from the product template.

Check in Shopify

Open the subscription app and confirm the product belongs to an active selling plan group.

Check in SAISON

Open the product template and confirm the relevant app block or selling plan block appears near the buying controls.

When to contact support

Send the app name, product handle, and screenshot of the product template blocks.

What you see

Unit pricing, compare-at price, or sale messaging looks wrong

Likely cause

The pricing data comes from Shopify product fields, not only theme styling.

Check in Shopify

Review compare-at price, product measurement/unit pricing, tax settings, and market pricing.

Check in SAISON

Check Product section price blocks, compare price display, sale badge settings, and product card price settings.

When to contact support

Send the expected price display and screenshots from Shopify pricing fields.

Common mistakes

  • Changing swatch styling before checking the product option name.
  • Testing only the first variant instead of several color and size combinations.
  • Expecting SAISON to create variant images automatically when Shopify variants do not have images assigned.
  • Using Direct add quick add for products where customers must choose size, color, or selling plan.
  • Troubleshooting a live product while editing a different unpublished product template.
