Search & Filters
Configure predictive search and faceted filtering to help customers quickly find what they are looking for.
When a catalog grows too large to browse manually, search and filters become the primary ways customers discover products. SAISON natively supports Shopify's faceted filtering system and provides a fast, interactive predictive search drawer.
Predictive Search
Predictive search appears automatically when a customer begins typing in the header search bar. It displays matching products, collections, pages, and blog posts without requiring a full page load.
- Displays product images, titles, and prices immediately.
- Can be configured to search descriptions, product tags, and more.
- Test predictive search with product names, category words, and partial terms.
Search Settings
| Setting | Location | Recommended | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enable predictive search | Theme settings > Search | Checked | Provides instant suggestions as users type. |
| Show vendor | Theme settings > Search | Optional | Useful for multi-brand stores. |
| Show price | Theme settings > Search | Checked | Helps customers make quicker decisions. |
Faceted Filtering
To power the filters on your collection and search pages, SAISON integrates seamlessly with the Shopify Search & Discovery app.
Important: Shopify Theme Store requirements state that all OS 2.0 themes must use the Shopify Search & Discovery app for filtering. Built-in tag filtering is no longer recommended.
Setup Steps
Install the App
Download the free Shopify Search & Discovery app from the Shopify App Store.
Create Filters
Open the app and navigate to Filters. Click Add filter to select product options (like Size, Color, or Material), Product Types, Vendors, or Metafields that you want customers to be able to filter by.
Enable Filters in SAISON
Go to the Theme Editor and navigate to a Collection page. In the left sidebar, click on the Product grid (or similar main section) and check the setting to Enable filtering.
Best Practices
- Enable only filters that genuinely help customers narrow down choices.
- Use clear product option names (e.g., 'Size' instead of 'Variant1').
- Combine filters intelligently: a customer should be able to filter by 'Size M' and 'Color Red' simultaneously.
- Limit the number of filters to avoid overwhelming mobile users.
Common Mistakes
- Adding too many filters: Having 15 different filter categories clutters the UI and confuses customers.
- Using internal tags: Customers do not understand internal organizational tags; stick to Options and Metafields.
- Forgetting Search Pages: Remember to enable filtering on the Search results template as well, not just Collections.
