Troubleshooting

Shopify editor and preview issues

Fix cases where changes do not appear, the wrong template is being edited, preview differs from live, or a setting is hard to find.

Theme editorTemplatesPreview links

Fix By Symptom

What you see

You see the wrong theme in preview

Likely cause

Shopify preview links can keep you in a draft theme, old preview session, or a different browser state.

Check in Shopify

Open Online Store > Themes and confirm whether you are previewing the published theme or an unpublished draft.

Check in SAISON

Use the exact Customize or Preview action for the SAISON theme you intend to edit.

When to contact support

Send the preview link and state whether the theme is published or unpublished.

What you see

Changes do not appear on the live storefront

Likely cause

You edited an unpublished theme or did not save/publish the changed theme.

Check in Shopify

Confirm which theme is published and whether the changed theme has unsaved edits.

Check in SAISON

If changes are in an unpublished SAISON copy, preview it directly or publish only after launch checks.

When to contact support

Send a screenshot of the Themes list showing the published theme and draft theme.

What you see

A page does not use the template you edited

Likely cause

The product, collection, page, blog, or article is assigned to another template.

Check in Shopify

Open the resource in Shopify admin and check the Theme template assignment.

Check in SAISON

Open that exact template in the theme editor before changing sections or blocks.

When to contact support

Send the resource handle and screenshot of its template assignment.

What you see

A setting is missing

Likely cause

The setting is global, section-level, block-level, hidden by another setting, or available only in another template.

Check in Shopify

Confirm you are editing the correct page type and selected the correct section or block.

Check in SAISON

Check Theme settings, then the specific section, then the relevant block. Some controls appear only after choosing a layout or enabling a feature.

When to contact support

Send the setting name you expected and the current editor location.

What you see

Editor preview and live storefront look different

Likely cause

Apps, market/language context, cache, unpublished changes, or preview mode can alter what you see.

Check in Shopify

Test in a private browser window and confirm market, language, and theme state.

Check in SAISON

Check app embeds, custom Liquid blocks, and template assignment on the affected page.

When to contact support

Send the live URL, preview URL, and screenshots from both.

Common mistakes

  • Editing an unpublished theme and expecting the live storefront to change.
  • Changing a product template that the product is not assigned to.
  • Looking for a block setting while the section itself is selected.
  • Testing only inside the editor instead of opening the preview URL.
  • Assuming a missing setting is removed before checking layout-dependent controls.
